NEW! Overnights PLUS with Patrick
Overnight Plus is an add-on to regular overnights, available Monday through Friday (no training on weekends, but you can extend days).
Dogs have to be at Wags & Ruffs for a minimum of 3 full training days (9AM - 4PM) Monday - Friday. During each of the three days your dog will be in 1on1 training for one hour in the morning with our trainer and will experience a pack adventure walk (on-leash) in the afternoon with multiple doggy friends. When not in training or on the walk, your dog will be able to socialize in daycare. After daycare, all overnight pups will go home with our trainer and enjoy a big fenced in backyard and a homely sleeping arrangement while being supervised 24/7.
Requirements: Passing Temperament Test + W&R Daycare Requirements
PLEASE READ:
This training option is for owners who are looking for guidance with basic obedience for their dog. Each day you will receive three videos of your dog working with our trainer on basic obedience exercises (schedule below). The trainer will explain the purpose of the exercise and will discuss the actions in the video step by step.
Overnight Plus is only an introduction to obedience for your pup. Dog behavior is almost exclusively controlled by the owner. Therefore, this training option requires you to train your dog at home following our trainer’s video advice frequently and over a long period of time because for dogs to learn a skill or stop bad behavior it takes a lot of repetitions and time. Most importantly they need to learn it from you since the ultimate goal is that your pup listens and respects you.
Overnight Plus (3 Full-Days) includes:

Puppy Class - 11:00 am
Puppies are brand new to this world and it is our job to set our pups up for success by properly socializing them. Many humans think that socialization just means with other dogs but this is not the case! Socialization includes other dogs, other humans, new places, and things as well! In this course, we will be showing our dogs how to behave in different settings: playing, going to the vet or groomer, how to behave at home (when the doorbell rings, when you are cooking in the kitchen, etc.), desensitizing to strange items such as skateboards, a few commands such as sit, down, and leave it, as well as some troubleshooting for common issues like barking, biting, and jumping. This class is for all puppies <10 months old. At the end of the course, you will have all the tools you need to create a confident and well-behaved puppy in any situation!
Beginner's Class - 12:15 pm
In this course, we will get a better understanding of how dogs learn so we have the foundations to train our dogs using operant conditioning. We focus on teaching our dogs basic obedience command including ''down", "look", "touch, "settle", "chin-rest", "leave it", recall, & "drop it". We also cover problem issues such as jumping, digging, biting, barking, and pulling on the leash. This course is open to dogs >10 months old. If all your dog knows is how to sit, then this course is for you!
Intermediate Class - 1:30 pm
The intermediate course consists of a deeper understanding of learning theory and adds distance, duration, and distractions to the commands we learned in beginner's class, plus "place", "come", "out", and a few fun tricks. If your dog knows the basic obedience commands such as sit, down, look, & touch but struggles with performing when they are around distractions (i.e. in public) or won't "stay" in the position (i.e. will sit when you ask them to but gets up before being released), then this class is for you! We will also talk about dog body language and how to mediate playtime.
Advanced Class (CGC Prep) - 3:30pm
Please note that this is a ROVING class and we will be meeting at different locations around San Diego such as Fiesta Island, Balboa Park, Morley Feild, etc. The FIRST (1/17/2021) and LAST (2/28/2021) class of this course will be scheduled for 2:45 pm at the Wags & Ruffs facility but all of the others will be at a predetermined location at 3:30 pm. In this course, we will be preparing our dogs to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. We will towards and ultimately be tested on the following items:
Test 1: Accepting a Friendly Stranger
Test 2: Sitting politely for petting
Test 3: Appearance and grooming
Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Test 5: Walking through a crowd
Test 6: Sit and down on command and Staying in place
Test 7: Coming when called
Test 8: Reaction to another dog
Test 9: Reaction to distraction
Test 10: Supervised separation
The final class will be the exam for CGC Certification. There is an additional fee for the CGC testing of $35 that will be due on the last day of class. For more information on the CGC visit https://www.akc.org/products-services/training-programs/canine-good-citizen/
